How many bets are in a Super Heinz?

A Super Heinz is 120 bets on 7 selections: 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 fourfolds, 21 fivefolds, 7 sixfolds and 1 sevenfold. At £1 a bet it costs £120 win only, or £240 each-way. There are no singles, so you need at least two winners for any return.

How it works

  • Every combination of your 7 selections is a separate bet: 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 fourfolds, 21 fivefolds, 7 sixfolds and 1 sevenfold, 120 in total.
  • Each bet returns your unit stake multiplied by the decimal odds of every selection in it. One losing leg makes that bet lose; a void or non-runner leg counts as odds of 1.0.
  • Each-way doubles the stake to 240 bets: the place part settles every placed or winning selection at the place fraction of the odds (for example 1/4 odds a place).

Worked examples

All 7 win at 2/1, £1 stakes

Return £16,362.00 from a £120.00 outlay, profit £16,242.00.

2 of 7 win at 2/1

Return £9.00 for £120.00 staked, so a loss of £111.00.

1 of 7 wins at 5/1

No return: with one winner every Super Heinz bet has a losing leg, so the whole £120.00 is lost.

Frequently asked questions

A Super Heinz contains 120 bets on 7 selections: 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 fourfolds, 21 fivefolds, 7 sixfolds and 1 sevenfold. Each is settled separately, so you can still get a return when some selections lose.

Multiply your unit stake by 120. A £1 Super Heinz costs £120, a 50p one £60.00, and each-way doubles it, so £1 each-way costs £240.

It depends on the odds. With every selection at 2/1 you need 4 winners out of 7 to show a profit. Bigger prices need fewer winners; short-priced selections need more.

The non-runner is treated as void, so it counts as odds of 1.0 in every bet that includes it. A Super Heinz with a non-runner effectively becomes a smaller full-cover bet on the remaining selections.

A Goliath is 247 bets on 8 selections (28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 fourfolds, 56 fivefolds, 28 sixfolds, 8 sevenfolds and 1 eightfold). Choose based on how many selections you fancy and how much you want to stake.
