How it works

  • Every combination of your 8 selections is a separate bet: 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 fourfolds, 56 fivefolds, 28 sixfolds, 8 sevenfolds and 1 eightfold, 247 in total.
  • Each bet returns your unit stake multiplied by the decimal odds of every selection in it. One losing leg makes that bet lose; a void or non-runner leg counts as odds of 1.0.
  • Each-way doubles the stake to 494 bets: the place part settles every placed or winning selection at the place fraction of the odds (for example 1/4 odds a place).

Worked examples

All 8 win at 2/1, £1 stakes

Return £65,511.00 from a £247.00 outlay, profit £65,264.00.

2 of 8 win at 2/1

Return £9.00 for £247.00 staked, so a loss of £238.00.

1 of 8 wins at 5/1

No return: with one winner every Goliath bet has a losing leg, so the whole £247.00 is lost.

Frequently asked questions

A Goliath contains 247 bets on 8 selections: 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 fourfolds, 56 fivefolds, 28 sixfolds, 8 sevenfolds and 1 eightfold. Each is settled separately, so you can still get a return when some selections lose.

Multiply your unit stake by 247. A £1 Goliath costs £247, a 50p one £123.50, and each-way doubles it, so £1 each-way costs £494.

It depends on the odds. With every selection at 2/1 you need 5 winners out of 8 to show a profit. Bigger prices need fewer winners; short-priced selections need more.

The non-runner is treated as void, so it counts as odds of 1.0 in every bet that includes it. A Goliath with a non-runner effectively becomes a smaller full-cover bet on the remaining selections.

A Super Heinz is 120 bets on 7 selections (21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 fourfolds, 21 fivefolds, 7 sixfolds and 1 sevenfold). Choose based on how many selections you fancy and how much you want to stake.
