How it works

  • Every combination of your 5 selections is a separate bet: 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 fourfolds and 1 fivefold, 26 in total.
  • Each bet returns your unit stake multiplied by the decimal odds of every selection in it. One losing leg makes that bet lose; a void or non-runner leg counts as odds of 1.0.
  • Each-way doubles the stake to 52 bets: the place part settles every placed or winning selection at the place fraction of the odds (for example 1/4 odds a place).

Worked examples

All 5 win at 2/1, £1 stakes

Return £1,008.00 from a £26.00 outlay, profit £982.00.

2 of 5 win at 2/1

Return £9.00 for £26.00 staked, so a loss of £17.00.

1 of 5 wins at 5/1

No return: with one winner every Canadian (Super Yankee) bet has a losing leg, so the whole £26.00 is lost.

Frequently asked questions

A Canadian (Super Yankee) contains 26 bets on 5 selections: 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 fourfolds and 1 fivefold. Each is settled separately, so you can still get a return when some selections lose.

Multiply your unit stake by 26. A £1 Canadian (Super Yankee) costs £26, a 50p one £13.00, and each-way doubles it, so £1 each-way costs £52.

It depends on the odds. With every selection at 2/1 you need 3 winners out of 5 to show a profit. Bigger prices need fewer winners; short-priced selections need more.

The non-runner is treated as void, so it counts as odds of 1.0 in every bet that includes it. A Canadian (Super Yankee) with a non-runner effectively becomes a smaller full-cover bet on the remaining selections.

A Lucky 31 is 31 bets on 5 selections (5 singles, 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 fourfolds and 1 fivefold). The Lucky 31 adds singles, which protect you if only one selection wins but cost more.
