How many bets are in a Lucky 63?

A Lucky 63 is 63 bets on 6 selections: 6 singles, 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 fourfolds, 6 fivefolds and 1 sixfold. At £1 a bet it costs £63 win only, or £126 each-way. Because it includes singles, a single winner always returns something.

How it works

  • Every combination of your 6 selections is a separate bet: 6 singles, 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 fourfolds, 6 fivefolds and 1 sixfold, 63 in total.
  • Each bet returns your unit stake multiplied by the decimal odds of every selection in it. One losing leg makes that bet lose; a void or non-runner leg counts as odds of 1.0.
  • Each-way doubles the stake to 126 bets: the place part settles every placed or winning selection at the place fraction of the odds (for example 1/4 odds a place). Bookmaker bonuses and consolation odds are not included, as terms vary.

Worked examples

All 6 win at 2/1, £1 stakes

Return £4,095.00 from a £63.00 outlay, profit £4,032.00.

2 of 6 win at 2/1

Return £15.00 for £63.00 staked, so a loss of £48.00.

1 of 6 wins at 5/1

Return £6.00 from the single, a loss of £57.00.

Frequently asked questions

A Lucky 63 contains 63 bets on 6 selections: 6 singles, 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 fourfolds, 6 fivefolds and 1 sixfold. Each is settled separately, so you can still get a return when some selections lose.

Multiply your unit stake by 63. A £1 Lucky 63 costs £63, a 50p one £31.50, and each-way doubles it, so £1 each-way costs £126.

It depends on the odds. With every selection at 2/1 you need 4 winners out of 6 to show a profit. Bigger prices need fewer winners; short-priced selections need more.

The non-runner is treated as void, so it counts as odds of 1.0 in every bet that includes it. A Lucky 63 with a non-runner effectively becomes a smaller full-cover bet on the remaining selections.

A Heinz is 57 bets on 6 selections (15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 fourfolds, 6 fivefolds and 1 sixfold). The Lucky 63 adds singles, so one winner returns something but costs more.
