Hedge Bet & Cash-Out Calculator

How much should I hedge?

To hedge a winning position, back the opposite outcome with a stake of (original stake × original odds) ÷ hedge odds. That makes the return identical either way, locking in a guaranteed profit or loss. Compare it with the bookmaker's cash-out, which usually pays a little less.

£73.33

£26.67

How it works

  • Your original bet returns stake × original decimal odds if it wins.
  • A full hedge backs the opposite outcome with stake = that return ÷ hedge odds, so both outcomes pay the same.
  • Guaranteed profit = that equal return − original stake − hedge stake. If it's negative you're locking in a smaller loss.

Worked examples

£10 at 11.0, hedge at 1.5

Hedge stake £73.33. Either way you return £110, a guaranteed £26.67 profit.

£20 at 4.0, hedge at 3.0

Hedge stake £26.67. Return £80 either way, a guaranteed £33.33 profit.

£10 at 2.0, hedge at 1.8

Hedge stake £11.11. Return £20 either way, a £1.11 loss locked in: hedging a bet that has drifted rarely pays.

Frequently asked questions

For an equal result either way, stake (original stake × original decimal odds) ÷ hedge odds on the opposite outcome. Stake less if you want to keep more upside on the original bet.
