Dutching Calculator

How do you calculate dutching stakes?

To dutch, stake each selection in proportion to 1 ÷ its decimal odds, scaled to your total stake. If the combined implied probability (sum of 1 ÷ odds) is under 100%, every winning selection returns the same profit; if it's over 100%, you lock in the same loss.

Profit if any wins

£31.08

How it works

  • Implied probability of each selection = 1 ÷ decimal odds. Add them up to get the book you are covering.
  • Stake on each selection = total stake × (1 ÷ odds) ÷ total implied probability.
  • Return if any covered selection wins = total stake ÷ total implied probability, so the profit is identical whichever wins.

Worked examples

£50 on 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0

Book 61.7%: stakes £20.27, £16.22 and £13.51, returning £81.08 for £31.08 profit if any of them wins.

£20 on 2.5 and 3.0

Book 73.3%: stakes £10.91 and £9.09, returning £27.27 whichever wins.

£30 on 1.8, 2.2 and 3.5

Book 129.6%, over 100%, so you'd lose £6.85 whichever wins. Too many short prices make dutching pointless.

Frequently asked questions

Divide 1 by each selection's decimal odds, add the results, then give each selection your total stake multiplied by its own 1 ÷ odds and divided by that total. Every covered winner then returns the same amount.

Only when the selections you cover are collectively better value than the market thinks. Dutching doesn't create an edge; it spreads one opinion across several runners with equal profit.

No. Arbitrage covers every outcome for a guaranteed profit; dutching covers some outcomes, so you still lose everything if an uncovered selection wins.

If a tipster gives several runners in one race, dutching keeps your profit equal whichever wins. Check that the combined book is well under 100%, or the profit is tiny.
