When is the Cheltenham Festival 2027?
The 2027 Cheltenham Festival runs over four days from Tuesday 16 March to Friday 19 March 2027 at Cheltenham Racecourse. There are seven races a day, 28 in total, finishing with the Cheltenham Gold Cup on the Friday.
The Cheltenham Festival is four days and 28 races of the best jump racing in Britain and Ireland, and the busiest week of the year for racing tipsters. It's also when bettors are most likely to pay for a subscription on the back of a few headline winners. This hub sets out what's on each day and how to tell a genuine tipster from a festival-only marketing push.
Cheltenham Festival 2027: day-by-day race guide
The key races on each day. Race names, sponsors and exact distances can change, so check the final racecard before you bet.
Day 1 · Champion Day
| Race | Class | Distance | What to look for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supreme Novices' Hurdle | Grade 1 | 2m ½f | The opening race and the traditional 'roar'. Novice hurdlers, often big fields and strong Irish form. |
| Arkle Novices' Chase | Grade 1 | 2m | The top two-mile novice chase. Jumping at speed matters more than stamina. |
| Ultima Handicap Chase | Handicap | 3m 1f | A competitive staying handicap where each-way extra places can be valuable. |
| Champion Hurdle | Grade 1 | 2m ½f | The championship race for two-mile hurdlers and the feature of day one. |
| Mares' Hurdle | Grade 1 | 2m 4f | Championship race for mares, often dominated by Irish yards. |
Day 2 · Style Wednesday

| Novices' Chase (3m) | Grade 1 | 3m ½f | The staying novice chase — a common route to future Gold Cup runners. |
| Coral Cup | Handicap | 2m 5f | A big-field handicap hurdle; small stakes and each-way terms are sensible. |
| Queen Mother Champion Chase | Grade 1 | 2m | The two-mile chasing championship and the feature of day two. |
| Champion Bumper | Grade 1 | 2m ½f | Flat race for jumps-bred horses; form lines are thin, so be cautious. |

| Race | Class | Distance | What to look for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Novices' Chase (2m 4f) | Grade 1 | 2m 4f | Intermediate-distance novice chase. |
| Pertemps Network Final | Handicap | 3m | Staying handicap hurdle for horses that qualified through the season's series. |
| Ryanair Chase | Grade 1 | 2m 4½f | Championship race for chasers between two miles and three — the feature of day three. |

|---|---|---|---|
| Triumph Hurdle | Grade 1 | 2m 1f | Championship race for four-year-old juvenile hurdlers. |

| Cheltenham Gold Cup | Grade 1 | 3m 2½f | The blue riband of jump racing and the most important race of the week. |
| Foxhunter Chase | Hunters' chase | 3m 2½f | For amateur riders over the Gold Cup trip; form can be hard to read. |

How to judge Cheltenham Festival tips before you pay
Ante-post vs on the day
Cheltenham tips are often given weeks in advance at big prices. That can be good value, but ante-post bets are lost if the horse doesn't run. Check whether a tipster's record counts non-runners as losers and whether they also tip non-runner-no-bet.
Irish form is crucial
Irish-trained horses win a large share of the festival's Grade 1 races. A tipster who doesn't follow Irish racing closely is missing half the picture for most of the week.
Ask for a full, time-stamped record — not festival highlights
Every tipster posts their big festival winners. What matters is every bet they advised at the meeting in previous years, with the time it was sent and the price available then. If they can only show you winners, assume the losers were hidden.
Check the prices were actually available
A tip at 20/1 that was 8/1 within a minute of being sent isn't a 20/1 winner for most followers. Ask how quickly prices move after their tips and judge their record at the odds you could realistically get, ideally against Betfair SP as a sense check.
Treat a big meeting as a tiny sample
Even a busy festival is only a couple of dozen races. A tipster can have a brilliant or awful week by luck alone, so never judge them — or change your staking — on one meeting. Look at their whole season and several years of the same meeting.
Set a festival bankroll and level stakes before day one
Decide a total budget for the meeting, split it into level stakes (for example 1–2% of your bank per point) and stick to it. Chasing losses on the final day is how most people give back a good week. 18+, and only bet what you can afford to lose.
