Single
A bet on one selection. It wins if that one outcome is correct. The simplest and lowest-risk way to bet, and the easiest to judge a tipster on.
A single is a bet on one selection that wins if that single outcome is correct — the simplest and lowest-risk bet there is.
How it works
You stake an amount on one selection at its odds. If it wins, you're paid your stake multiplied by the odds; if it loses, you lose the stake. Because only one thing has to go right, singles have the highest strike rate of any bet type and are the fairest way to judge a tipster's true edge.
Worked example
£10 on a team at odds of 1.80 returns £18 (£8 profit) if they win. Nothing else affects the outcome.
Pros
- Highest chance of winning of any bet type
- Easy to value and track
- Lowest variance — smooths bankroll swings
Cons
- Smaller returns than multiples
- Less 'exciting' than accumulators
Tips
- Serious, profitable tipsters build their edge on singles.
- Judge a tipster's ROI on their singles record.
FAQ
- Are singles better than accumulators?
- For long-term profit, usually yes. Singles win far more often and carry less variance, which is why most professional bettors favour them.
