Tricast
Naming the first three finishers in the exact order. Hard to land, but the payouts can be substantial.
A tricast is a bet on the first three finishers of a race in the exact correct order.
How it works
It's one of the harder racing bets to land, so the payouts are large. Like forecasts, the dividend is calculated by the bookmaker based on the runners' odds, and tricasts are usually only offered on races with enough runners.
Worked example
Correctly naming a 1-2-3 in a competitive handicap can return hundreds of times the stake, depending on the prices involved.
Pros
- Very large potential payouts
- Small stake, big reward
Cons
- Extremely hard to predict
- Not offered on small fields
Tips
- Reserve tricasts for races you've studied closely.
- Consider combination tricasts to cover more orders.
FAQ
- How many runners are needed for a tricast?
- Bookmakers typically require a minimum field size (often 8+ runners) before offering tricast betting.
