Asian Handicap
A handicap system that removes the draw using half-goal (and quarter-goal) lines, splitting stakes to reduce risk and often offering sharper prices.
The Asian Handicap removes the draw from football betting by using half-goal and quarter-goal lines, splitting your stake across outcomes to reduce risk.
How it works
With only two possible results (rather than three), Asian lines offer sharper, better-value prices. Quarter lines (e.g. −0.75) split your stake between two handicaps, so you can win, half-win, push, half-lose or lose — smoothing variance.
Worked example
At −0.5, your team simply has to win. At −0.75, half your stake is on −0.5 and half on −1.0, so a one-goal win is a 'half-win'.
Pros
- No draw — only two outcomes
- Sharper prices and better value
- Quarter lines reduce risk
Cons
- Quarter lines can confuse beginners
- Half-win/half-loss maths takes getting used to
Tips
- Great for backing favourites or sides you expect to avoid defeat.
- Learn the quarter-line splits before betting them.
FAQ
- What's the difference between Asian and European handicap?
- Asian handicap removes the draw with half/quarter lines and can split your stake; European handicap uses whole numbers and keeps the draw as a result.
